Notting Hill

Classicism, subtle luxury and smart design.

Pull back the white-stucco-villa curtain of Notting Hill, West London and you’ll find a unique blend of cultures, where affluent professionals, retirees, and moderate-income residents, from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, live side-by-side.

A young, energetic client, who had recently purchased an elegant apartment within one such villa on a serene, tree-lined avenue, contacted OGA to progress renovation ideas and to secure the permissions.

This was an interiors project for which longstanding design partner Studio Lavan was the perfect fit, and so the two studios collaborated on a tightly arranged layout with individual spaces bleeding into others.

Grand proportions were expressed in reception areas and curtailed in private ones.

An array of spaces was united by a common palette. Materials are upmarket and chromatically similar, but varied in texture, drawing from japanese Wabi-Sabi philosophy with subtle executive detailing.

Concealed lighting is controlled by smart switches within an intelligent control system, which learns from occupant behaviour.

Both stained and natural oak, as well as walnut, interplay throughout living areas.

The result is a residence that celebrates its storied context and the tech-driven lifestyle of its inhabitants.
