Baumschulenweg

On the southern edge of Berlin, the neighbourhood of Baumschulenweg is a home to one largest and oldest tree nurseries in Europe, and is characterised by a landscape of green flatlands, waterways and ponds. This projects called for the complete refurbishment of a private apartment in Berlin Baumschulenweg, belonging to a leading local medical professional.

The project involved full layout reconfiguration, and all surfaces were replaced. All choices were underpinned by a wish to reflect the palette and geometry of the surrounding landscape and materials, bringing the stark, graphical character of the tree-peppered landscape into the apartment, while delivering intimacy and familiarity with natural materials.

Warmer tree motifs, combined with natural wood were offset by more timeless and cool, but still organic, elements in sculpted concrete.

Objects and joinery were arranged around a theme of transparency, allowing new views to be cast through the apartment.

The project was completed summer 2023.
